Funded by a grant from the Health First Foundation, JLSB’s Fueling Kids program currently serves students at Sabal Elementary, Christa McAuliffe Elementary, Stone Middle School, and area Head Start programs.
To achieve our mission of “Improving Children’s Health Through Nutrition and Physical Activity,” the JLSB stocks food pantries at both Sabal Elementary and Christa McAuliffe Elementary. These provisions help feed hungry kids during the school day, at after school care, and at home. To keep kids on the move, the JLSB provides recess equipment throughout the school year and sponsors Field Day. Hundreds of children are reached each school year.
We are excited to expand at our presence at Brevard Public Schools this year to include Stone Middle School. While Stone Middle School has an established food bank, the JLSB is proud to provide its students with hygiene products.
Each fall and spring, the JLSB has been excited to offer an educational program on Crockpot cooking to local Head Start parents. Crockpot cooking facilitates simple, healthy meals on a budget, and each Head Start family leaves our program with a Crockpot, cookbook, and gift card to start grocery shopping.
Feel inspired to join our mission or have an opportunity for us to serve the Brevard Community? For more information on the JLSB’s Fueling Kids project, please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
